The Greenwood Dolphins Swim Club is proud to acknowledge the accomplishments of Owen Bond, who competed in the prestigious Canada Games this August.
The Canada Games welcomed over 4,000 of Canada’s top youth athletes for two weeks of fierce competition, this year held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Bond, 17, competed in four swimming events over four days, and was pleased to swim fast enough to compete in a 100-metre breaststroke final.
Bond’s favourite memory from the week-long experience was participating in the high-energy opening ceremonies, which celebrated all of the athletes and welcomed everyone to St. John’s. He really enjoyed the team spirit he felt as a member of Team Nova Scotia, representing his province in these national games, and cheering on his teammates from all over the province.
Team Nova Scotia represented very well, bringing home six medals in swimming events.
Next for Bond is to keep pushing hard as he enters his graduation year at West Kings, as he plans to join the military and hopes to swim on the Canadian Armed Forces’ CISM team one day. Special thanks to coach Amanda Bond for her training expertise and helping Bond reach his goals.
If you would like to improve your swimming techniques and become a competitive swimmer, or simply join the team for health and social benefits, please contact Coach Bond at gwddolphinscoach@gmail.com, or club president Sharon Bond at gdscpresident@gmail.com. The club is holding open try outs for the upcoming season Saturday, September 6 at 3 p.m. in the 14 Wing Greenwood outdoor pool. Please come dressed to swim!
