Inside look at the AOZ

From maintenance to ground control to flying operations, there was a little bit of everything for everyone during a 14 Wing Greenwood Airfield Operations Zone tour offered to Greenwood Cadet Training Centre Aviation Technology and Aerospace course students July 15.

In addition to climbing the many steps of the air traffic control tower to get a bird’s eye view of the wing from the cab and visiting 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron’s search and rescue technician’s shop to learn about the different types of equipment SAR-Techs use on missions, Cadets also visited 14 Air Maintenance Squadron’s various repair sections – even the inside of an engine-testing bay, a stop that particularly suited Flight Sergeant Camden Wadden.

“My favourite part about this course is probably working with the engines and seeing everything there,” Camden said.

The tour not only gave Cadets an in-depth look at all the different parts that make up an aircraft, but also gave them a peek at the many different trades that make up the Royal Canadian Armed Force.

For Flight Corporal David Sutherland, getting up close to the CP140 Aurora and inside the CH149 Cormorant were the most exciting stops of the tour, while Flight Corporal Lily Heffern says her favourite part “was just learning about the different opportunities” the RCAF offers.
