14 Wing Greenwood’s Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services’ partners in Community Recreation and Military Family Services (MFS) teamed up June 20 to host their annual volunteer appreciation barbecue, offering collective sincere thanks to the many volunteers in the Greenwood community who help 14 Wing provide military families with diverse programming.

“It’s a time when we can celebrate our volunteers and thank them for all the hard work they’ve done throughout the year,” says Personnel Support Program Community Recreation manager Jill Jackson. “They’re really the heart of our community, and that’s why we have such great programs and services – because of all the volunteers who put so much effort and time into making programs and activities for our families.”

The June 20 Community Centre event included a draw, featuring prizes for everyone present and a make-your-own sundae bar – much to the excitement of the children present. Prior to serving, PSP aquatics and recreation coordinators Jonah Feil and Lindsay McCormack, respectively, announced some of their upcoming events, including a chartered whale-watching tour, a Halifax Buskers Festival visit and in-demand summer day camps and swimming lessons.

MFS senior manager Stephanie Vatcher and program specialists Kassandra Bertrand-Masse also introduced some of their organization’s military family programs and services organization. Vatcher emphasized MFS is “here to support families.” The organization actively recruits volunteers to help with programming and hopes to offer teen programming in the future.
