After three days of sunny, hot conditions, the final round of the 14 Wing Greenwood golf playdowns wrapped June 25 at the Paragon Golf and Country Club in Kingston.
Scores in the field were close through the tournament, as players competed for a spot at the upcoming Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic regional golf tournament, July 15 to 18 at CFB Gagetown. With a total of six males and three females eligible to represent 14 Wing Greenwood at the CAF regionals, players had to be at the top of their game in each round.
On the men’s side, Corporal Tyler Currie led the field from day one, shooting a combined score of 236 over the three days. He was closely followed by second-place Master Corporal Todd McAvoy, who shot a combined 245. Highlights during the week saw a three-way tie for sixth place between Sergeant Matt Pittman, Corporal Ryan Woodrow and Sergeant Shannon Green after round two. Close behind them was Major Joe Antle, trailing by three strokes. Antle had an exceptional final round, making up ground to finish in fourth position. At the end of the final round, there was another tie for sixth place between Corporal Tristan Tobin and Green, which required a playoff hole. During the playoff, Tobin made some great shots to claim the final roster spot.
On the women’s side, three players competed: Corporal Joliane Laforce, Master Corporal Natasha Philippe and Corporal Cassidy Durling. Laforce was the frontrunner over the three days, posting a strong combined score of 274. Philippe and Durling also had good rounds; all three qualified for regionals. For Philippe, this will be her second consecutive regional event: she qualified through regionals to CAF nationals in 2024. This is Durling’s first regional event, and she is looking forward to making her debut.
