Friday, May 16, 14 Wing Defence Team members and community friends are welcome to an 8:30 a.m. flag-raising event, hosted by the Defence Team Pride Advisory Organization, to mark May 17 as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. This will take place at the 26 Canadian Forces Health Services main entrance. This year’s theme is “The power of communities.” If you are heading to the same day RCAF Run and would like to wear rainbow colours to both the flag-raising and the run, that’d be fun!
May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. The day recognizes hard-earned progress, while also addressing the pursuit of equality, as two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and additional sexually and gender diverse communities continue to face adversity and challenges in our pursuit of rights and inclusion.
