The Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre (GMFRC) provides support, guidance and tools to 14 Wing Greenwood Defence Team members and families. One important service over the past number of years has been childcare.
Childcare plays a critical role in helping Defence Team members and their families function optimally, and supports the continued growth and development of their children. To assist in the delivery of high-quality childcare, the Greenwood MFRC Childcare Centre will continue its childcare services, as Military Family Services takes on responsibility for the operations of Defence Team support programs.
The board for the Greenwood MFRC Childcare Centre is now seeking five to 10 volunteers to join its board of directors. The board’s main aim will be to govern the centre, located at the GMFRC, assist in fulfilling the centre’s mission and purpose, and ensure mandated goals and objectives are met.
Natasha Appolloni, the current chair of the GMFRC board, highlights the benefits and impacts a volunteer could have. It provides “an opportunity to get involved with community, build connections and give back in a meaningful way.”
Appolloni, with previous board experience, says some of the best things about being part of a board of directors is “seeing that the work being done is making a difference in the community, and knowing that you played a small part in making that happen.”
As part of the Greenwood MFRC Childcare Centre board of directors, volunteers will directly assist with the growth and development of children in the Greenwood community, including Defence Team members and families.
Volunteers should be dedicated, co-operative and willing to learn. There is no specific skill set required, but previous experience or knowledge in policy and project management, and a financial background; would be an asset. Military and non-military members and families are all encouraged to apply. For more information, contact gmfrcchildcareboard@gmail.com
