Earlier this summer, tactical weather specialist Corporal Jennifer Winter and the 14 Wing Greenwood Meteorological Section put out the call to aspiring student forecasters to predict conditions for the return to class September 5.
Using Met Section-provided historical data (and perhaps a little wishful thinking), dozens of entries were made, coloured and collected. A whole spectrum of weather conditions was forecast: everything from overcast skies, giant pickles and thunderstorms, to rainbows – and even a black hole! The competition become so spirited, the office even received forecasts from adults who submitted their own artistic interpretations.
The entire Met section would like to thank everyone for participating in this contest, with particular congratulations to Océane, Rankin and Liam; who made the most accurate back-to-school forecasts! These budding meteorologists each predicted a sunny day with blue skies, and just a few clouds. Of our finalists, Océane very expertly placed those clouds as high as she could, which matched the day’s outcome of cirrus clouds at 25,000 feet.
Each of our finalists received prize bags filled with goodies from CANEX, the 14 Wing Greenwood Bowling Centre, and from your friends at the met office. Great job, everyone!
NOTE: Océane and Liam – the Met section hasn’t been able to reach you at the contact info included on your entries. Your prizes are awaiting pick-up at The Aurora Newspaper office (61 School Road) if your parents could bring you by to collect them.
