Wet ditch work

,

Don’t let the pool setting fool you: annual wet ditch training by 14 Wing Greenwood’s aircrew personnel is hard work – and an essential for long range patrol flights over water. 404 (Long Range Patrol and Training) Squadron hosts regular emergency training sessions in the Fitness & Sports Centre pool, under lifeguard supervision, as CP140 Aurora aircrew work through the LRP’s Standard Manoeuvre Manual. April 9, personnel went through the exercises: donning anti-exposure suits and life vests, practicing shallow water entry – and how to stay upright, swimming 25 metres as an individual, with a buddy or as a crew; human “rafting” techniques; uprighting and boarding a 10-person life raft, reviewing the raft’s equipment, and practicing how to put on a “horse collar” for hoisting to a rescue helicopter.
