A multinational team of rescue specialists, including two search and rescue technicians from 14 Wing Greenwood’s 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron, recently underwent rigorous training at the Rescue Force Qualification Course, run by the United States Air Force, at Patrick Space Force Base in Florida. The course prepares rescue forces through comprehensive academics, ground and water operations. Trainees are immersed in space medicine basics and trained on a practice spacecraft analogue for crew capsule functionalities, astronaut extrication techniques and spacecraft hazard identification; culminating in capsule up-righting drills. This collaboration, requested by NASA, aims to broaden rescue capabilities for Commercial Crew Program launches and foster a closer bond between the USAF and Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Halifax, streamlining communication for global rescue missions.
