14 Wing Greenwood’s CIS (Communication Information Systems) Flight hosted the 2024 35th Annual Atlantic Region C&E Curling Bonspiel at the Greenwood Curling Centre March 21 to 24.
The bonspiel has become a signature event, not just at CFB Greenwood, but throughout the entire Communications and Electronic branch. Back in the glory days, Sigs (serving and retired members of the signals trade) from across Canada, and from all three elements, jumped at the chance to have their team’s name added to the trophy, proudly displayed at the Service Desk in 4 Hangar. It was common – and even expected – to get so many teams, organizers would have to turn people away. These days, with 10 teams, 20 brooms and 40 smiles; it is still a great time. This annual tradition bonds the CIS community in Atlantic Canada and encourages networking from members new and seasoned.
The 2024 champions were JUSTICE FOR ALL: Jim Dempsey, Brent Smith, Ron Keilback and Harley Brown; all retired Sigs that come back every year. A special mention goes to Ernie Killam who, for each bonspiel, generously makes and donates a beautifully hand-carved wooden prize for the winners.
This year’s bonspiel committee included Sergeant Kirk “the KAK” Kreitzer, chair; Master Corporal Dan “the Man” Davidson, vice-chair; Master Corporal Mike “the Coach” McPherson, secretary; Warrant Officer Gary “the Old Man” Earle, finance; Lieutenant Kate “The Ma’am” Bruce, public relations; Corporal Chris “Smitty“ Smith, advertising coordinator; Corporal Chris “the Paparazzi” Arsenault, photographer; Corporal Frank “The Tank” Fournier, webmaster; Corporal Aaron “New Pappa” McCluskey, draw master.
CIS Flight looks forward to welcoming back competitors in 2025 and hosting the 36th Atlantic Region C&E Bonspiel. Hurry hard!
