Canadian Armed Forces Sports has announced the four-year re-appointment of Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Travis as the CAF CISM triathlon team manager.
Travis, a Royal Canadian Air Force aerospace engineer with 33 years of service, is the commanding officer of 14 Air Maintenance Squadron at 14 Wing Greenwood.
As a child of a military member, Travis has been a nomad his entire life, never having lived in any location for more than four or five years. This meant changing sports with each new location (depending on what was available and popular), and becoming somewhat adaptable. As a young man, he was involved in gymnastics, skydiving, wakeboarding, snowboarding, rock climbing and white-water kayaking but, after a few injuries in his late 20s, and with the birth of his son in his mid-30s; Travis shifted directions. He took up swimming (as part of rehabilitation from injuries) and, eventually, triathlon. His love for this new sport grew quickly, jumping into a few local races and immediately focusing his sites on qualifying for the CISM triathlon team.
In 2007, Travis first qualified for the CISM triathlon team, representing Canada as an athlete from 2007 to 2015. He became the team/ program manager in 2016, and has continued in that role. He has enjoyed racing and managing the team around the world, including at events in Estonia, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, South Korea, Sweden, China, Spain and France. He has been a competitive Ironman 70.3 and full-distance athlete since 2017, participating in the 2018 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii and the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Travis has always found sports to be an excellent way to relieve stress, maintain both physical and mental health, and build lasting relationships with likeminded people across the country and around the world. He is excited to continue as the CISM triathlon team manager and looks forward to continuing to grow the program and prepare the team for the 2027 Military World Games.
