How to “Inspire Inclusion” this International Women’s Day? Get some inspiration, ideas and connections at the 14 Wing Greenwood IWD special event March 8, co-hosted by the Defence Women’s Advisory Organization and the Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre.
Guest speakers include Dr. Claudine Bonner, Acadia University’s first vice-provost, equity, diversity and inclusion; and Helen Luedee, executive director at Ledgehill Treatment Centre & Atlantic Centre for Trauma. There will be light refreshments, prizes and an array of 14 Wing and community information and vendor display booths.
Bonner, an associate professor of sociology and women’s gender studies, is responsible for providing vision, excellence and leadership to support Acadia University’s equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Before taking on the vice-provost role in September, she helped identify gaps and develop recommendations as a member of the President’s Anti-Racism Taskforce (PART) and the President’s Advisory Council on Decolonization. She holds honours bachelor of science and masters of education degrees from Toronto, a master’s degree from Dalhousie, and a doctorate in gender, equity and social justice from Western. She has led research projects on diversity and equity in education, African-Caribbean migration to Cape Breton and Canada’s 19th-century Black press. She currently serves on the board of the Council of the Canadian Historical Association, Valley African Nova Scotia Development Association and the Nova Scotia Women’s History Society.
Luedee is a distinguished leader with extensive experience in the field of mental health and addiction. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Community Studies) degree from Cape Breton University, a bachelor of social work degree from Dalhousie University, and a master of social work degree from Memorial University. Prior to EHN Canada, she was the clinical manager at TELUS Health, where she brought her expertise to bear in advancing healthcare solutions. She’s also served as the manager of the Mental Health & Addictions, Opiate Recovery Program for Nova Scotia Health (Eastern Zone) in Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Her commitment to public service is evident through her volunteer work including chairing Transition House and the CBRM March 21st Planning Committee.
This event is open to the community, and takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Annapolis Mess.
