This year’s 14 Wing Greenwood Winter Carnival has incorporated the 100th RCAF anniversary! The Greenwood Defence Team will be travelling through all the decades of RCAF history, as eight unit teams guide us through their chosen decade, highlighting RCAF milestones (and more!) in artwork, costumes, music and fun.
Starting off with the infamous TGIF Pep Rally February 9, unit teams will parade through opening ceremonies dressed to represent their decade. Their RCAF artwork will be set up for judging, and then a week’s display. Events continue February 9 to 15, following the RCAF anniversary theme, including the escape room and trivia. Families will also be able to take part, learning some history by geocaching on the February 10 Family Day. We have received a lot of support with building clues from the volunteers at the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, and we know, with their expertise, families are going to be learning a lot!
2024’s Winter Carnival has incorporated a number of changes, starting with a planning survey available to all members of 14 Wing several months ago. Winter Carnival is for members: why not let them all have a say? From data collected, we chose the top-voted items (members could choose as many as they wanted, or comment to add a new event) and built a schedule.
Another change is to the Family Day. New events include our 14 Wing Families Have Talent challenge, a chance for our strongest support team – our families – to show off their skills! Each participant will receive an award, and one act will win the show! Anyone who wants to participate will need to pre-register by February 8, via the show’s registration QR Code or https://forms.office.com/r/ffP0ZN9G70.

We are looking forward to seeing how Winter Carnival ‘24 unfolds. We want to thank every member who completed surveys back in September, every event and unit OPI, our support teams and all volunteers. You have all made a huge impact on shaping this event, and we are so proud of what has been created. We hope everyone makes it out to take part in the events, enjoys themselves and, perhaps, recharges during these busy operational and mid-winter blues days with some FUN!
