14 Wing Greenwood’s men’s hockey team is on the ice January 22, looking to win their way through the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic region championships for a second year, and return to the national tournament later this winter.
“It’s pretty much the same members as last year,” says assistant captain player Warrant Officer Pier-Olivier Poulin. “We’ve had a few guys in and out, but any of them would still be seasoned military or former AAA hockey players.”
The team started its twice-a-week practice season in October, and joined a community recreational league in Kingston to get game play experience. January 15, they split up, and played a friendly at the Greenwood Gardens during their regular practice to pick up the pace to match what they’ll encounter through the military hockey matches.
Team coach is PSP Fitness & Sport Centre manager Matt Gillis; captain is Lieutenant Nick Gibson, and Poulin, Corporal Tyler Williams and Corporal Tyler Happeney are assistant captains.
