Icy display puts RCAF into Winterlude fun

,

Here’s a pretty cool way to promote the 2024 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force: have your celebratory design carved in a six-foot by six-foot by eight-foot block of ice, on display as part of Ottawa’s Winterlude festival.

The RCAF will mark 100 years, 1924 to 2024, as an independent service April 1. To celebrate this key milestone, the centennial team has been planning ways to showcase the air force to Canadians, build internal support and pride and leave a legacy that brings the institution forward into the next 100 years. This centennial will showcase the RCAF in a past, present and future tense, encapsulated in the theme, “Honour, Celebrate and Inspire.”

The aim of the RCAF 2024 Winterlude sculpture is to produce a publically-engaging and potentially interactive design, inspired by the RCAF 2024 Motto, “Your Air Force.” The ice comes in 25 moveable blocks to make up the total sculpture.

The deadline for submissions is October 1. Submissions are open to Canadian Armed Forces members and their families, Department of National Defence employees and members of the Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers community. For full details on submission specifications and entry details, visit rcaf2024arc.ca.

The main RCAF 2024 Campaign will launch in March and conclude in November 2024, delivering an ambitious programme of complementary events and initiatives. The 100th anniversary is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reflect upon our global contributions to national and international peace and security, an occasion to engage the nation and build critical public support for future sustainment.
