Women’s hockey regionals take to Greenwood ice

14 Wing Greenwood hosts the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic region women’s hockey championships next week, February 13 to 17, marking the return of CAF live sports since pandemic interruptions.

The 2023 tournament is a three-team round robin at the Greenwood Gardens Arena, featuring the home team 14 Wing, CFB Halifax and 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown.

February 13 will be a practice day for teams as they arrive in Greenwood, with a coaches’ and officials’ meeting at 4:15 p.m., followed by a team meet-and-greet at the Annapolis Mess Tow Bar, from 7 p.m.

14 Wing Commander Colonel Jeff Davis will open the tournament February 14 at 8 a.m., dropping the starting puck. Game 1 gets underway at 9 a.m., featuring Greenwood and Halifax. Game 2 is set for 3 p.m., with Gagetown taking on Halifax.

February 15, Greenwood meets Gagetown at 9 a.m. The second- and third-place teams will meet in a 7 p.m. semi-final.

February 16 will be the final, with the first-place team ready at 9 a.m. for the winner of the previous night’s match. Medals and the closing ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m.

In the event of weather delays, February 17 is in reserve as a re-scheduling day. Spectators are welcome at all the games, and updates will be available via a Facebook event hosted by @The Aurora News
