Middleton students remember fallen Commonwealth airmen in Old Holy Cemetery visit

Middleton Regional High School Grade 10 students will again joined the cross-Canada No Stone Left Alone initiative, paying their respects during a November 5, 10:45 a.m., visit to Middleton’s Old Holy Cemetery.

Career Development 10 students at MRHS prepare for the visit by reading local author Dianne Hankinson LeGard’s book, including history on the Commonwealth airmen buried at Old Holy Trinity; then walk to the cemetery. Reverend Wade Seymour, with the Parish of Wilmot, and community members will add to the visit through remarks, readings and the laying of poppies on each Commonwealth War Grave by students, who speak the men’s names as they are remembered. The wider public is welcome to attend the event.

Old Holy Cemetery was the first from Nova Scotia to join No Stone Left Alone several years ago; this year, there are nine cemeteries across the province holding events. Since 2011, the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation has been dedicated to remembering Canadian veterans, matching students and youth with an authentic experience that creates knowledge, understanding and appreciation of those who serve and sacrifice.
