November 9 public webinar shares veterans’ motivations, experiences, memories
As we commemorate the 85th anniversary of the battle of Hong Kong this Remembrance Day, the Canadian Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association hosts a November 9 webinar you may be interested in. Using first person accounts from veterans, paired with photographs from the period, Jane Parry explores the motivations and experiences of the young Canadian troops of ‘C’ Force who departed for Hong Kong in 1941. She discovers what they made of Hong Kong before the outbreak of war, and what happened to them – from the outbreak of war, through their ordeal as prisoners and slave labourers, until liberation in 1945. In their own words, Parry tells their incredible stories of bravery, sacrifice, suffering and resilience.
