RCAF shows off aerospace maintenance trade opportunities

Royal Canadian Air Force members, including representation from 14 Wing Greenwood, participated in Op BLITZ, conducting outreach visits September 25 to Fanshawe College in London, and Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. The initiative featured static displays of CP140 Aurora and CF18 Hornet aircraft and a CH148 Cyclone helicopter, aimed at increasing awareness of Non-Commissioned Member Subsidized Training and Education Plan (NCM-STEP) career opportunities within RCAF technical occupations, and supporting the growth of Canada’s future aerospace maintenance workforce.

With approximately 30 per cent of RCAF aircraft maintenance engineering personnel receiving training through civilian colleges across Canada, the events provided an important opportunity to engage prospective trade candidates. Visiting air and ground crew members worked alongside recruiting personnel to interact with students, providing insight into RCAF operations and answering technical questions related to aircraft maintenance and aircrew operations. Their efforts fostered meaningful connections with future aviation professionals and enhanced awareness of technical careers within the RCAF.

The outstanding support provided by members of 14 Air Maintenance Squadron, 404 (Long Range Patrol and Training) Squadron, and 405 (Long Range Patrol) Squadron in the outreach visit was instrumental to the success of the initiative, ensuring a productive and rewarding experience for all participants, further strengthening the RCAF’s recruiting and outreach efforts.
