Speakeasy secret social, all your new rec and hobby clubs, games and challenges, Op Morning Morale – and more!
New to 14 Wing Greenwood? An old hand, but ready to find new friends, recreational activities, business connections and have fun? A 14 Wing community neighbour? It all comes together at the annual Wing Welcome, this year happening September 17 to 20, hosted by the wing’s partnering Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services team.
For close to 30 years, Wing Welcome has been a Fall tradition at 14 Wing, as military families arriving over the summer get the opportunity to see all the community had to offer, and military and community families who enjoy life in Greenwood already get settled into Fall routines – or find something new!
Free activities for all ages, evening entertainments, special events and more fill the four-day schedule. The Saturday, September 19 REXPO is the big event: almost 100 wing and community organization display and registration tables, with businesses, hobby clubs, churches, resource groups, 14 Wing programs, sports clubs and more show up to show off their offerings. Add in a free BBQ, draw prizes, free bouncer fun – it’s a large day. Later, head to the pool for fun and games. Later still, there’s karaoke at the Tow Bar.
Highlight events this year also include the new Friday early morning Operation Morning Morale – the command team will welcome 14 Wing personnel and visitors at the main (Pathfinder Drive) and back gates (from Ward Road) between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. with coffee and a muffin. Friday evening, take in the Military Family Services’ family circus; be sure to ask them about their super-secret Saturday evening speakeasy social (register by September 14 to get all the info on where to go, dress, menu and extras).
Sunday, the wing hosts its annual public Battle of Britain parade and service – a good opportunity for personnel and the community to see 14 Wing at its formal best, appreciating heritage and acknowledging service.
