The Kingston Greenwood Sports Hall of Fame is extending its commitment to local athletes beyond celebrating past achievements, announcing a new scholarship designed to help the next generation pursue its sporting dreams.
The Athletic Promise Scholarship will award $1,000 to a student-athlete in Grades 9 to 12, or a 2026 graduate, from École Rose-des-Vents, Middleton Regional High School or West Kings District High School; who demonstrates exceptional athletic potential, dedication, sportsmanship and a commitment to excellence in their chosen sport. Funding may be used to offset costs associated with training, coaching, equipment, travel, competition fees, camps and other sport-development opportunities. Applicants are asked to provide information about their sport, competitive achievements over the past three years, training program and future athletic goals. They must also submit a 300- to 500-word personal statement describing their athletic journey and explaining how the scholarship would help advance their development. A recommendation from a coach is also required. Applications may be picked up and dropped off at the Village of Kingston office, or requested by emailing community@kingstonnovascotia.ca. Applications are due September 15.
Hall of Fame organizers have emphasized the importance of connecting the region’s sporting history with future generations. With the creation of the Athletic Promise Scholarship, the organization is looking beyond honouring yesterday’s accomplishments, to investing directly in tomorrow’s athletes. For many families, the costs associated with competitive sport can be significant. Training, travel, equipment and competition expenses can create barriers for young athletes seeking opportunities to develop and compete at higher levels.
The scholarship represents a natural evolution for an organization created to recognize and preserve the rich sporting legacy of Kingston and Greenwood.
