Twenty-seven aircrew members, killed during Second World War training at RAF Station Greenwood – and a long way from their homes across Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the united Kingdom; were remembered June 14 during the annual Decoration of the Graves service at the Old Holy Church cemetery in Middleton.
The wreath-laying service, which began over 80 years ago as a promise to a grieving mother from the Middleton-area IODE Rosemary Chapter to look after her son’s grave, was organized by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1 Middleton. 14 Wing Greenwood command team representatives, with a 29-member honour guard and five member cenotaph guard; local government officials, 517 Flight Lieutenant Graham Royal Canadian Air Cadets and community friends were all in attendance.
