There was a time when saying “Kentville is for the birds” would be considered an insult. Nowadays, it’s a compliment that will have birders heading to town to add more birds to their lists.
The Town of Kentville, in partnership with Hike Nova Scotia, has a new Kentville Birding Challenge Badge. Being surrounded by natural green space and close to the migratory routes of the Bay of Fundy, it’s a haven for birds.
Earning the Kentville Birding Challenge badge means hiking on certain trails found in Kentville, identifying at least five birds and visiting a local restaurant or cafe afterwards. You have a year to complete the challenge. Once you’ve earned the badge, order it online through Hike NS. Badges are $5 for Hike NS paid members or $7.50 for non-members.
The Hiker Challenge is about inspiring, motivating and rewarding hikers to start hiking or to hike more. Your reward for completing a challenge is a badge to show off on clothing or backpacks, and making the Honour Roll. Prize draws happen each season for gift cards generously provided by The Trail Shop. There are 22 badges to earn across the province as part of the Hiker Challenge.
