She also competed for Team Nova Scotia at the 2007 Canada Games and is tied for the second-most goals scored in a single game in AUS women’s hockey history.
Andy Peters represented Nova Scotia in rugby at the 2001 Canada Games and as a member of the provincial U21 team. He later won multiple senior men’s championships in Nova Scotia and Alberta, and was a five-time MVP with the Red Deer Titans.
Kevin Thompson, a Special Olympian, is a versatile multi-sport athlete who competed at the national level in floor hockey, representing Canada in 2015. He is also a decorated powerlifter, earning four national bronze medals and a provincial gold medal, as well as two provincial gold medals in curling.
Lawrence Toney earned recognition as a premier woodsmen athlete by setting a world record in log rolling and representing the region at major international competitions, including the National Sportsmen Show in New York and the Hunting and Fishing Show in Boston.
The 1957 CKRHS senior girls volleyball team made history as the first female team at Central Kings to win a headmaster’s provincial championship. The team completed a perfect season, finishing with a 10-0 record.
“This year’s class represents an incredible range of talent and dedication to sport,” says Mike Trinacty, Berwick Sports Hall of Fame committee member. “These inductees have achieved success at the provincial, national and international levels – and we’re proud to celebrate their accomplishments!”
Prior to the ceremony, the hall of fame recognizes local athletes for success over the past year. The community is invited to share these recent accomplishments with us so we can celebrate them. Send notes and photos to tboylan@berwick.ca to be included. This year will include a special recognition of Cleo D’Eon, as the oldest active curler in the province.
You are welcome to attend the induction ceremony and recognition event Saturday, June 13, at the Berwick and District Lions Hall. The doors open at 6 p.m., with the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m.
