The Theatre at West Kings is proud to present the award-winning musical Sister Act April 22 to 26.
TWK is an extra-curricular, performance-based theatre program at West Kings District High School in Auburn that augments the academic program and allows all members of the student body to explore the magic of theatre. Any given show may involve up to 70 students, who audition and start rehearsals in the early Fall and perform a five-show run to the delight of sold-out audiences after months of preparation.
When lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier (Natania Stewart), sees her mobster beau, Curtis (Morgan Sosnowski), commit murder, Police Chief Sweaty Eddie (Cameron Lausoontornsiri) relocates her for protection. Pretending to be a nun, Deloris is able to hide in the local convent while waiting for trial. To keep her out of trouble, Mother Superior (Abygail Milne) reluctantly assigns Deloris to the convent’s choir, an ensemble she soon turns into a vibrant and soulful act that gains widespread attention.
To prepare for opening night, TWK actors spend approximately 400 hours learning specific skills from a volunteer production team with substantive experience in vocal training, choreography, orchestral music, stage management and back of house management. The past couple weeks, the stage crew and tech operators have to the process.
The Theatre at West Kings is a club its music director refers to as one that comes with a “lifetime membership.” The collective is fortunate every year to reconnect with alumni and past staff who return to see a show. As this season’s production prepares to take the stage the TWK group thanks and wishes the best to graduating students: actors Parker Haggerty, Avreri Rossignol, Abigail Milne; and crew member Sophie Wuhrer.
