D&D, Warhammer, models, video and board games, Magic the Gathering – and more! – at Greenwood event
Gamers and hobbyists know there are “small pockets of nerds” all around the Annapolis Valley.
“Pull them all together – that’s a lot of people!” says May 9 Nerdfest volunteer Andrew Craig. “I’ve been nerding for years: D&D, Warhammer; my partner plays Magic the Gathering – all of it is cool. All of it together is amazing!”
George is part of a 14 Wing group of regulars who game at the Annapolis Mess, and the Annapolis Valley Gaming Events group. They’ve organized a couple smaller pre-Nerdfest events, but this one is benefiting from a more fulsome team of volunteers and community partnerships to really up the game.
The event, to be held at 14 Wing Greenwood’s Annapolis Mess, is open to the public, family-friendly and will run between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. with a local vendors sale, miniature and scale model painting competitions, pick-up board game play, Warhammer 40K, Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons tournaments; kids’ activities, including themed colouring and miniature painting; and live-play, big-screen Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart drop-in fun.
“We’ll have all kinds of things set up: come in and try it! Everyone always has to go to Halifax for this stuff. We can create our own little thing, grow respect for the people who play and show some love for the local businesses that are here.”
