14 Wing Greenwood marks International Women’s Day ’26
14 Wing Greenwood’s Defence Women’s Advisory organization is ready for March 8’s International Women’s Day, hosting its events today, beginning with a flag-raising at the 14 Wing main gate this morning.
Lieutenant-Colonel Shawn McGeown, the DWAO’s military champion, thanked those attending “more than just a ceremony, but an opportunity to recognize the respect, commitment and celebration of the achievements of women and girls in every field, progress that’s been made in gender equity and that there is still work ahead.
“Communities grow stronger and more resilient with everyone, and we all have a role to play.”
Lieutenant-Colonel Joel Stubbert, representing 14 Wing Commander Colonel Luc Vachon, said, “across Canada and across this wing, women lead and deploy with distinction – they make our mission stronger.”
Wing Chief Warrant Officer Justin Harper marveled at the change in the Canadian Armed Forces from when he started 25 years ago.
“How far we’ve come: 25 years, a fully integrated force. Operational readiness, lethality – all around us, we couldn’t do it without women.”
At 1 p.m., Defence Team members and friends are welcome to attend a free screening of the Sandra Perron biographical film, “Out Standing,” in the Birchall Theatre, with Perron herself as special guest speaker.
