Bombers women planning to turn 2X silver into gold

Silver two years in a row could turn to gold for the 14 Wing Greenwood women’s volleyball team at the upcoming Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic regionals February 24 to 27.

14 Wing Greenwood hosts both the women’s and men’s regionals this year, both jamming the double-floor at the Fitness and Sports Centre. The women have been working steadily through the winter season’s practices, including a set of outings against the West Kings District High School and Valley Venom teams, the most recent February 5 on their home court.

“We wanted to have the game, wear the uniforms, and just get in the mindset of regionals – only weeks away,” says Bombers coach Corporal Léo Gautier.

They lost against West Kings earlier in the winner, but Gautier says that evening was about “trying some things and playing in our rotations.” The Venom match was more even, with more of the Bombers able to fully focus on the team and their own roles.

“We have two members who are students, another who’s Military Police, two are aircrew, so often deployed flying – there are lots of career things. But – we have some new members from last year, including people we’ve played against!”

The mix of returning members, plus the newcomers through the military posting cycle, may have worked in Greenwood’s favour: “we’ve got a good roster this year – our chemistry’s pretty good, and we’ve definitely been having fun.”

Spectators are welcome (no outdoor shoes on the gym floor), and you may follow tournament action in the Facebook Event, 2026 CAF Atlantic men’s and women’s volleyball, hosted by The Aurora News, at https://www.facebook.com/share/1HNg9TmNYM/
