Bombers’ men’s volleyball ready for ‘games to start now’

A solid foundation – and some expansion – should help 14 Wing Greenwood’s men’s volleyball Bombers, as they head into the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic region tournament February 23 to 27.

The 2025 Bombers were the first men’s volleyball team to come from 14 Wing since 2020, when that February tournament squeaked in just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greenwood didn’t make last year’s final, but they certainly have the feel of the floor for the 2026 championship.

The men’s tournament returns to Greenwood again this year; the women’s tournament will round out the week, as the Fitness and Sports Centre will run a double-court floor until the Thursday and Friday semi-finals and finals. The double-court is how Greenwood’s men and women have been practicing for much of the winter season.

“We have a decent shot,” says Bombers’ men’s coach Corporal Dave Lubin, who spearheaded the 2025 return of the team and continues to take the lead. “We’ve had pretty steady practices through the winter, with some new people – a few people posted in, and a few others who were on the wing and had heard volleyball was back. We have a full roster.”

Lubin acknowledges he’s a competitive person and he and the team are playing to win.

“We’re just excited for the games to start now.”
