14 Wing senior Bombers looking for regional four-peat

The 14 Wing Greenwood senior men’s Bombers are heading to the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic region tournament, looking for their fourth consecutive title. Serious business.

The fun business? A pre-regionals warm-up on home ice February 5 against the recently victorious wing men’s team, which won its own regionals at the end of January. The pre-game jesting, as the youngsters and the older-than-37-year-old seniors took to the Greenwood Gardens ice, was an easy way to move the senior players’ mindset from fun to serious.

“OK, time to beat up some kids.”

“We’re going to put the puck in the net.”

“We’re here to test things out; work the system – all the old clichés.”

“It should be fun!”

Warrant Officer Pier-Olivier Poulin says the senior Bombers, like any military team, has seen its share of turnover since the 2025 iteration: “a couple guys have retired, a couple were posted, a couple away on deployment’s last year are here this year, we’ve had a couple of ‘graduates’ into the 37-plus – but we’ve kept the core.

The team has had solid practices through the winter, with 14 or 15 regular attendees. A number of players also play recreationally with local leagues. To make the 2026 roster, the team actually had to cut a few players, “but that’s a good problem to have,” Poulin says.

“We’re confident” for this year’s regionals, being hosted by 12 Wing Shearwater at the Shearwater Arena, “but you play on the ice. We’ll go there, we’ll try our best – and that’ll win it. It comes down to hard work.”
