During IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) Nova Scotia Powerlifting provincials May 18 and 19 in Halifax, two of 14 Wing Greenwood’s Bar Benders military powerlifting team members did some heavy lifting, broke some records and won some hardware.
Corporal Tracy Hillaby competed in the 84kg weight class, Masters 2 division. Hillaby was able to secure a total of 295kg/ 649lb, which resulted in first place in her respective division and weight class. This total was built from a max effort squat with 102.5kg/ 225.5lbs, benching 50kg/ 110lbs and deadlifting 142.5kg/ 313.5lbs! Taking into consideration Hillaby’s bodyweight, age and total weight lifted, she was able to achieve a Goodlift point total of 55.775. Hillaby now holds M2/ 84kg Nova Scotia Powerlifting records in both deadlift and total weight lifted.
Sergeant Jeff Baker competed in the 120kg weight class, Open division. Baker was able to secure a total of 781kg/ 1,718.2lbs, which resulted in first place in his respective division and weight class, as well as second overall in the male category. This total was built from a max effort squat with 288.5kg/ 634.7lbs, benching 177.5kg/ 290.5lbs and deadlifting 315kg/ 693lbs! Taking into consideration Baker’s bodyweight, age and total weight lifted, he was able to achieve a Goodlift point total of 90.877. Baker now holds the Open/ 120kg Nova Scotia Powerlifting record in the squat.
With both athletes having a stellar performance, breaking records and securing gold, it is an honour to be able to call them 14 Wing Bar Benders, and have them represent the CAF in a civilian event.
