International Day for Persons with Disabilities – When Hope Breaks Through

December 7 and 8, 14 Wing Greenwood was privileged to host Mike Shoreman as part of efforts to recognize International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

International Day for Persons with Disabilities is held annually and aims to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all spheres of society. On both days, Shoreman opened the screening of his award-winning documentary film, “When Hope Breaks Through,” and took questions from the audience afterward. The film captures Shoreman’s struggles with mental health after being diagnosed with a neurological condition, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, and overcoming those challenges to become the first person with disabilities to paddle board across all five Great Lakes.

During his time at 14 Wing, Shoreman visited the Annapolis Mess for delicious schnitzel, met with 415 (Long Range Patrol Force Development) Squadron personnel conducting aircraft ground testing, logged over an hour in the CP140 flight simulator at 404 (Long Range Patrol and Training) Squadron and experienced a thrilling familiarization flight on the CH149 Cormorant with 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron – proving disability is not in-ability.
