14 Wing Greenwood’s women’s slo-pitch team had a great time at the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic Regionals in Shearwater August 14 to 18.
While the team played hard, and initially held the lead in the semi-finals, Gagetown was able to push back, take a 10-8 win and move on to the finals.
The Greenwood women are pleased with what they were able to accomplish during the tournament, and to have had the chance to demonstrate all the skills they acquired during the season. Corporal Kelly Watson credits the coaches, Master Corporal Jodi Payne and Corporal Jenn Watson, for strong leadership and knowledge of the game, which ensured the team was able to perform at its best; as well as the efforts of every player, who gave their all during the competition.
“Master Corporal Shawna Norris had a great tournament, pitching all three games,” says Watson. “Corporal Brooke Taylor was solid on first base for the team, assuring we got every out possible.”
She added the team finished their semi-final game feeling proud of their performance in the field.
Corporal Brooke Taylor echoed her teammate’s sentiments: “We really came together as a team and kept a tight score, which we were all very proud of.”
Greenwood played teams from St. John’s, Gagetown and Halifax for the chance to represent Atlantic Canada in the CAF slo-pitch nationals in Borden September 9 to 13.
