Wing heading to soccer Atlantics

,

14 Wing Greenwood’s women’s soccer team has been hard at work preparing for the Canadian Armed Forces Atlantic Region championship, which will take place at CFB Gagetown August 21 to 25.

This season, the team has been getting in extra practice, playing in the Valley District Soccer Association. Returning player, and the team’s midfield, Captain Danielle Beland, says the Valley league games give the group a chance to practice working together in a game setting, excellent preparation for the CAF regionals. Rather than putting pressure on winning the games, the team uses the league as an opportunity to have fun, form stronger bonds and get to know how their teammates work on the field.

“It really helps us gel together. I first started in 2019 pre-COVID, and then we took a break, and then I played last year and this year – so this is the third year.”

Beland encourages anyone who would like to join the 14 Wing team to come out and join their practices.

“Even if you don’t have a lot of experience, just come. A lot of us are learning as we go anyway, and we’re more than happy to teach.”

Beland is excited to be joining her team in regionals this year. She is looking forward to the new experience.

“I’ve been to regionals before only here in Greenwood. This is the first time that I’m actually travelling for regionals, which is exciting for me.”
