Acadian Day recognition chance to ‘make some noise’

,

“Today is certainly a commemorative day,” announced 14 Wing Greenwood Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Proulx to the guests who attended the raising of the Acadian flag August 15 by Wing Commander Colonel Jeff Davis and Master Corporal Serge Duguay. This marked the first time that the flag has been raised at 14 Wing Greenwood for National Acadian Day.

Duguay, an Acadian from Robertville, New Brunswick, shared a few words on Acadian historical and cultural heritage and the festivities that take place in the Maritime communities during the day’s celebrations.

“National Acadian Day highlights the contribution of Acadians to the Canadian cultural fabric, recognizes their historical presence on the land and celebrates their cultural specificity in all its diversity.”

One tradition that brings Acadians together on this day is a “tintamarre,” which Duguay explained is to gather and “make noise to demonstrate your Acadian Pride! Make noise by means of drums, bells, trumpets or any other sound-making object. All are welcome to join in the celebrations and participate in them.”
