July 13 saw the change of command of 14 Construction Engineering Squadron, as the outgoing commanding officer, Major Paul Morillo, turned over command to Lieutenant-Colonel James Gannon in a ceremony presided over by 14 Wing Greenwood Commander Colonel Jeff Davis.
Morillo said in his address the last two years had been challenging, but went past faster than he had ever expected. The post-COVID-19 environment was still very much present as he started in the role, with many things still on hold or greatly reduced. The unit, being coast to coast, continues its very diverse operations, but worked as one on many training events and achieved success here at home and on international exercises. Morillo praised his command team, 14 Wing and his family, who had stood next to him throughout this role, and have always supported his work.
Davis spoke of Morillo’s time as CO and praised his ability to adjust to change and stay on track as all continue to navigate issues dealing with Operation RECONSTITUTION. Davis praised 14 CES’s ability to adapt to new circumstances, complete all projects and maintain a reputation of excellence. Davis also offered words of encouragement to the incoming CO, Gannon, saying the squadron has proven itself in the face of adversity but, as always, challenges remain to succeed with the development of members, force-generating capabilities in the CAF, and deepening strong community relationships.
Gannon thanked Morillo for his work maintaining the high level of professionalism within 14 CES. He said he is humbled and honoured to be back with 14 CES, remember his early days as a non-commissioner member with the squadron. His is certainly a journey that has come full circle, and Gannon is looking forward to connecting with all members of the squadron in the very near future.
