Greenwood Kingfisher makes first active Northern SAR

,

December 10 into 11, RCAF search and rescue crews were in action in the North.

A CH149 Cormorant from 103 SAR Squadron, 9 Wing Gander (RSCU901), launched on a nighttime medevac from a fishing vessel, successfully transferring the patient to medical care in Iqaluit.

Providing top cover was RSCU507, a CC295 Kingfisher from 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron, 14 Wing Greenwood, which stopped in Goose Bay for refuelling before heading north to support with overwatch and flare illumination.

This mission is the first operational Kingfisher SAR mission conducted within the Halifax Search and Rescue Region (SRR), a proud milestone for the fleet and for the dedicated crews.

The Kingfisher will officially take on its search and rescue line of tasking in January; however, as 413 Squadron transitions from the CC130H Hercules to the Kingfisher as the fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft in the Halifax SRR, the Kingfisher has been ready to be tasked if available as an aircraft of opportunity.
