October 14, the Royal Canadian Legion Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch 74 Wolfville held its first veteran banner program ceremony, a heartfelt and historic event that brought the community together to honour those who served.

The gathering quickly became a standing room-only occasion, as family members and loved ones gathered for a moving unveiling of banners representing veterans, with their stories of service shared with pride and gratitude. The event was hosted by Marie and Tim Meldrum, dedicated Branch 74 members, whose warmth and sincerity set the tone for an afternoon of reflection, remembrance and respect.

Wolfville Mayor Jodi MacKay brought greetings on behalf of the Town of Wolfville, expressing her appreciation for the Legion’s continued efforts to preserve and celebrate the community’s history. She commended the banner program as a meaningful reminder of the town’s deep connection to its veterans and their families.

Wolfville Legion president Paul Murphy noted how the Legion’s veteran membership has grown over the past year, a reflection of the branch’s spirit of engagement and community outreach.

Past Legion president Donn Miles extended warm congratulations to the Meldrums for their out-standing work, thanking them for the many hours spent researching, conducting interviews and organizing the banner program that so beautifully honours Canadian military and RCMP veterans.

The success of this inaugural ceremony marks the beginning of what promises to be a cherished annual tradition, one that ensures the sacrifices and contributions of veterans will forever be remembered and proudly displayed in Wolfville.
