TDoR call to reflect on hate; safety for all

November 20, the sky over 14 Wing Greenwood cooperated, lending blues, pinks and whites to the raising of the transgender flag, recognizing Transgender Day of Remembrance. The wing’s Defence Team Pride Advisory Organization hosted a flag-raising at the main gate, and invites friends to join them again for a 4:30 p.m. flag-lowering and brief vigil.

Captain Michelle Backhouse welcomed attendees to the “call to reflect” on the lives lost through acts of transgender violence, particularly transgender, non-binary and two-spirit people.

“This is an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to safety for all,” she said.

14 Air Maintenance Squadron Chief Warrant Officer Randy Halvorsen is a military co-champion for the DTPAO also thanked 14 Wing members for attending the flag-raising, and encouraged everyone to “listen, learn and support those who need us most.”
