Wreck display reminds drivers of risks of behind-the-wheel complacency

14 Wing Greenwood’s Road and Vehicle Safety Section (RVSS) is excited to announce the return of its National Road Safety Week wreck display, mounted at the approach to 14 Wing’s front gate May 15 to 21.

National Road Safety Week provides RVSS members the opportunity to engage with the Greenwood community and raise awareness on road safety. The aim of their display is to produce an impactful visual, and serve as a reminder of the potential risks drivers take when they do not follow recommended safe driving practices. This year’s theme, “Safer me, Safer you!,” focuses on reminding vehicle operators road safety is everyone’s concern, and warns drivers not to get complacent.

Master Corporal Jeff Cranney, an investigator for 14 Wing RVSS, cautions drivers to remember the basics, avoid distractions and not use cellphones while driving. Cranney also highlights the importance of using ground guides while backing up, a safety concern that has caused recent accidents on the wing.

“We kindly encourage you to re-evaluate your own personal habits while behind the wheel, and make sure you are taking the effort to avoid distractions and ensure your vehicle maintenance is being done,” Cranney says. “A safer you means a safer road for everyone.”

During the week the section will also be driving around the wing to talk about safe driving practices.
