CFB Greenwood’s grounds and facilities are playing host to the 2023 Nova Scotia Winter Special Olympics February 10 through 12.
Four hundred fifty-five athletes, coaches and organizers, plus volunteers; will compete and socialize. The opening ceremony will be Friday, February 10, at 5 p.m. in the 14 Wing Community Centre on Church Street. Competition gets underway at 7 p.m. for floor hockey and curling, at the Greenwood Curling Club; and figure skating practice will be held at the Greenwood Gardens Arena.
Saturday, floor hockey, curling and snowshoeing competitions run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Figure skating will be 9 a.m. to noon. At 7 p.m., participants are attending a dance at the Community Centre
Sunday, from 8 a.m. to noon, floor hockey, curling and snowshoeing continues. Events, and the weekend, will wrap up at 1:30 p.m.
The Annapolis Mess will provide food services for 455 people in the dining room Friday to Sunday, plus box lunches on the Sunday. Base accommodations and Cadet quarters will also be in use. Personnel Support Program staff in facilities will be assisting in the hosting of activities as required. 14 Wing’s Replenishment, Materials Management and Transport & Electrical & Mechanical Engineering flights are assisting with support services.
